Roller skating champion Taig Khris voiced Channing Tatum
In Jupiter: Fate of the Universe , Channing Tatum’s character wears anti-gravity boots, which allow him to fly. The Wachowskis wanted to limit digital special effects as much as possible and therefore hired several skaters in Tatum’s liners. Roller skating champion Taïg Khris was one of them and he was injured during the filming after a big fall. A risky profession.

Natalie Portman and Rooney Mara could have had the role of Mila Kunis
Rooney Mara and Natalie Portman wanted the role of Jupiter. But it is ultimately the sublime Mila Kunis who inherited it. Science fiction is a new genre, this actress more used to comedies, even if we have seen her in recent years in dark films, like The Book of Eli or Black Swan .

8-minute streak that took six months

An 8-minute chase scene in Chicago is the highlight of Jupiter: The Fate of the Universe . But to shoot it successfully, it took six months of filming, during which Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis came every day, and in this mind-boggling sequence we find the film’s most difficult stunts. Several streets in Chicago were cut off to traffic, and the production used three helicopters to transport stuntmen and actors to filming locations.

It’s Wachowski’s most expensive movie
Jupiter: Fate of the Universe cost a whopping $ 175 million. It’s the record budget for a Wachowski film and it shows on screen. Even the last two Matrixes haven’t done better with $ 150 million each. For comparison, Cloud Atlas required $ 102 million to see the light of day.

Director Terry Gilliam makes an appearance in the film
Terry Gilliam ( The Army of 12 Monkeys , The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus …) is present in the cast of Jupiter: The Fate of the Universe . The director plays a small role there which is nevertheless important, in a scene paying homage to his masterpiece, Brazil. “I  had to be ugly with a lot of makeup and it was a bit ridiculous day, with Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum and I revising the script,  ” Gilliam confided.
